Q: How do I know if my form is correct?
A: Don’t be afraid to video yourself. There are so many people at the gym who just want to look good by throwing as much weight on as possible and disregard form and technique. Take a step back and check your ego, drop the weight down and video yourself. Then you can see where you are lacking and what needs to be improved.
Q: I’ve always struggled with my weight and have tried every diet out there. How do I know what works for me?
A: Play the long game. Quit trying to lose 15 pounds a month. Is it possible? Yes, but we can’t compare ourselves to all the before and after pictures of amazing transformations out there. Start by looking for healthier alternatives that taste good and are sustainable. If you need to start by tracking your portions to get an idea of how much you eat, that’s fine. But counting calories is not a sustainable diet. Eat more chicken and fish with rice or quinoa. Use vinaigrettes or seasonings instead of traditional sauces.
Q: What’s the best way to tone?
A: Consistency. There’s a lot of myths out there about what your number of reps do for toning or building muscle. If you want to tone stay consistent with not only your work out but more importantly, your nutrition.
Q: How do I know which work outs to do?
A: There’s no single perfect workout, but some are better than others. Find someone you want to look like, and do the workouts they do. Just remember you aren’t at their level, and that’s fine. Do less weight but do enough to go to failure. Try it for at least a month, then switch it up. After a while you will be able to create your own work outs.
Q: Is Squatting bad for your knees and lower back?
A: No. There are a lot of myths out there from uneducated people that will tell you it is, but squatting is not bad for your knees or lower back. Bad forum is. Lots of people with PhD’s in exercise physiology will tell you the same thing. Make sure you have proper forum and are taking your time to warm up, make soar you have proper mobility to complete the full range of motion and you will be fine.
